The Impact of Film on My Life

Some people remember certain stages in their lives by significant national events, others by music, and some are like me- their lives are marked by the films that were released at the time. The majority of my childhood was marked by my obsession with a movie about a sinking ship and star-crossed lovers. The year I graduated high school, I witnessed the end of an era when a young boy wizard finally won possibly the greatest battle of good and evil to ever be committed to film. In my junior year of college, while I was feeling down, I went to my favorite actor’s latest film where he was one in a trio of underdogs on a business trip- and translated a nonsense phrase into a positive life motto. The last Christmas before moving out on my own, I saw my mother’s inner child reawakened by the iconic John Williams score that erupted from the walls, and the famous crawl that rolled down the screen.

Film has the power to not only entertain, but to educate, and inspire. Growing up, film was a major part of my life- and still is. More so than anything else, film shows the world as it is, or as we want it to be. It opens up windows to things we would otherwise never see. It provides us with a harsh reality, or a needed escape. As time advances, the industry has become more committed to diversifying the stories told on screen, and I would love to be a part of continuing that trend. To me, what’s most important is reaching people as I was reached. It’s a long story, but I was so impacted by film- that in 2016, I went from working at a call center in a small town in North Carolina, to living a stone’s throw away from the entertainment capital of the world- to working a major film festival- to seeing the actor who inspired me (twice), walking along the streets of Los Angeles- to marching with my fellow women in Park City- to growing up and realizing who I really am.

This website was created to share film analyses, reviews, and and my journey through life. Through my passion for writing, graphic design, and marketing, I am pursuing a career in publicity for independent films and their creators. Through my blog I have been sharing crowdfunded projects and loved the responses I received from the filmmakers.

Right now, I am currently located in San Diego, CA and will be relocating to the Los Angeles area in April of 2018. I currently serve as a Board Member for Les Femmes Underground International Film Festival– an organization that not only provides opportunities for women to showcase their work, but also seeks to empower women through literacy and the arts. Additionally, I’ve recently become a contributor for Film Inquiry. You can find more of my work there. I hope to expand into festival coverage and conduct interviews soon with filmmakers, influencers, and actors.

  1. I’m so glad I found your blog! Films and pop culture are basically my life and I just started going to the movies by myself. I find it to be a refreshing experience and maybe even more enjoyable than going with others. Especially since I don’t always have the same opinion as those I go with. I look forward to reading more of your reviews! Also, I’m very jealous of you internship.

    1. Thank you so much! I appreciate it. I almost go exclusively go to the theater on my own because I can see what I want and form my own opinion. It’s pretty liberating! Will definitely be posting more reviews and internship updates!
